About me
Born in a somewhat musical family in Bunbury, West Australia, Kim was exposed to various music styles from an early age. Jazz and South American music from Cuba, Brazil and Suriname were being played around the house all the time. Starting with singing in the church and school choir at age five and the drums at six, the piano didn't come in to the picture until a while later at age ten. And the intended musical direction was never really questioned - he always felt compelled to play that music his brother played in the school band: jazz.
At age twelve he received lessons from Leon Kuijpers for ten years, and now while teaching, attending jam sessions and performing he's finishing up a Master's degree at the Conservatory in Utrecht (HKU) where over the years he's been taught by a wide range of pianists: Bert van den Brink, Randal Corsen, Ge Bijvoet, Amina Figarova and Rembrandt Frerichs. These teachers, including several masterclass teachers such as Kenny Werner, have complimented Kim on his soft, warm sound, lyrical lines and harmonic ideas.
Currently active in:
The Jaeger Experiment, a trio with Christian Palmieri (drums) and Marre de Graaff (elec. bass) with plays original compositions and arrangements. Inspired by a great variety of artists such as Herbie Hancock, Pat Metheny, Keith Jarrett, Wayne Shorter, Gonzalo Rubalcaba and many more. This trio also enjoys featuring extra artists such as Coen Kaldeway and Leandro Bosso.
HBB - Formed in 2015 as a duet between Waka from Japan & Kim Jaeger, now in late 2017 double bassist Hajime Suzuki has joined the fray. This group specializes in playing chique background music for various events such as company networking, (hotel) restaurants, weddings and wedding receptions, birthdays, cookouts and more.
